Mindfulness refers to being aware, present, and fully in the moment.  Being fully aware of what is happening within and around you helps you to de-stress and make thoughtful decisions.

  • Pause the distractions. It can be hard to focus on your food when your laptop or phone holds your attention. Unplug during your meal so that you can focus on being present with all of your senses.
  • Taste. Pay attention to the flavors and textures of your food and savor every bite.
  • Tune in. If you find yourself rushing through your meal, try reminding yourself to slow down. Notice when you start to feel full and use your internal cues to guide you on when to end the meal.
  • Enjoy. Enjoy the experience of eating and the community around you. One of the best parts of being mindful is the satisfaction that comes from giving attention to simple moments.

How did it feel to eat mindfully? What did you like? What was challenging? Mindfulness is a skill, which means that it can take practice to fully grasp. Thank yourself for stepping up to the challenge and celebrate your wins.
